Wonder Woman

With all the attention surrounding Superman, Batman and Ben Affleck lately, comic book fans are wondering when Warner Bros. will focus their attention on any superhero that doesn't wear a cape—specifically Wonder Woman. Yeah, she's been around for over seventy years, headlined her own TV show, become a feminist icon and the most popular female superhero ever, and has still never had a feature film. What gives?

That could be changing, as "Chronicle" screenwriter Max Landis revealed during a recent AMA session on Reddit that he does have a superhero announcement of some sort to make in the near future, and that he has an idea for the popular Amazon that he plans on pitching to Warner Bros.

When asked if he had any plans to direct a superhero film, he replied, "You'll know sooner than you think." It sure looks like something is in the works with Landis, but I don't think it's "Wonder Woman" just yet. After all, Landis flat-out mentioned Wonder Woman—along with another DC hero—in one of his answers.

"Either a version of Green Lantern that played like 'ET' meets 'Stand By Me' using the goth/punk [scene] and Kyle Raynor, or Wonder-Woman, using a pitch that I intend to make to WB."

Come on, that Kyle Raynor film sounds amazing. Make that happen! But with Landis being so forthright about those two pitches, odds are they aren't the one he hinted at earlier in the question and answer session. When writers and directors get involved in comic book movies, they remain quiet.

This is pure speculation on my part, but this news does come right after we learned yesterday that "Locke and Key" has landed a new writer. Could that writer be Landis? While it's not a superhero film, it is a comic book movie, and the two are often mistakenly considered interchangeable. As Landis said, we might know the answer to all of these questions sooner than we think.
